The Merdeka 118 tower—Built at a cost of $1.5 billion USD and standing at an impressive 678.9 meters tall—is the second tallest building in the world after the famous Burj Khalifa tower in Dubai. Designed by the renowned Australian architect firm Fender Katsalidis Architects, it will serve as a symbol of progress for the city due to it’s iconic shape. The design of the tower is based on the silhouette of Tunku Abdul Rahman, independent Malaya(today’s Malaysia) first prime minister, raising his hand while chanting “Merdeka!” on 31st August 1957.

The tower will offer 83 floors of premium office space that will become the new headquarters of the Malaysian investment firm Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), while the top 16 floors will become a 5-star luxury hotel operated by Park Hyatt scheduled to open Q3 2024.
